iPod Touch Experiment: Run my membership sites/blog using iPod Touch – 3 Days

Written by Ansel Gough

Topics: Membership Site Videos

Here’s the deal. I think I’ve been spending too much time working in my home office. And I don’t want my home to start to feel like a job. Time to go mobile!

My plan – to run my membership site businesses and my blog from my iPod touch. At least for a few days. If all goes well, I’ll go mobile on a longer trip.

I don’t even want to touch my notebook computer. It’s just for back-up, in case there are any business emergencies.

So here’s what I did…

1. Had my virtual personal assistant book a beach front hotel room for me. Although I outsource a lot of things, I’ve never used my virtual assistant to book or take care of personal things for me. So this was new for me.

2. Put together my “going mobile kit”. This included my iPod touch, my notebook computer and my high speed wi-fi mobile broadband device (9GB of transfer).

3. Packed the SUV and gathered the family :)

I’m not a surfer boy, so I’ll have to stick to the boogie board.

Check out the video and feel free to comment below.

And my little disclaimer: I’m not affiliated with Apple and I’m not doing an endorsement for iPod touch.

    Ansel,
Wow! In the first part of the view I was thinking to myself that
‘no-way’… You’re just going to use the iTouch as much out and
about, but… ‘Man’ weren’t you freaked-out with all the extra
time? (hah). Very powerful and comforting in knowing you have your
system down?… It sure is impact’ful, indeed!
But, really, didn’t it feel a little interesting having the
spare time, while (another blog post discussion, no doubt)
working within yourself with the understanding that enjoyment
can also mean… ‘not’ doing business!?
    … thanks again!
    best,

  2. Ansel, the East Coast of Australia looks stunning as always.

Now let’s get serious and see you do a real road trip from top to bottom of Australia over a period of weeks.

Anyway it was good to see you take time away with family…as they say we should work to live, not live to work!

    Hi Ansel,

This is something I want to do at some point. But my question is, what service do you use to connect to broadband? Do you have some sort of “go anywhere” login details so you can access broadband that you pay for?

In the UK, we have BT which has something called “BT anywhere” or something, which, when you connect to the net, you get a login screen to enter your broadband account details. Is that what you have to do with this system when traveling to different countries?

I get that you are not promoting any of the hardware, but please let me know more about the wifi device. Who makes it?

  5. Ansel Gough says:

Thanks for the comments. As always, I appreciate it.

To answer some questions – The broadband service I use is a “go anywhere” service. It works similar to a cell (mobile) phone. But it’s data transfer rate is a lot faster.

I don’t have to login because it automatically connects. It is security enabled so that other people can’t leach off my bandwidth.

    It’s a Telstra device.

I can also take my VIOP phone with the unit and people can phone me on my home number and they think I’m at home, when I could be kicking back in the hotel room.

    Hey Ansel, great video.

I can help you save even more time. Grab the free app called Dragon Dictation. It will let you speak your emails, text messages and even your notes. (You need the earbuds with the mic built in.)

I use it all the time when I’m mobile, and it helps me manage my membership sites as well. I find that typing on that virtual keyboard is a little tricky and speaking emails is much easier.

    Happy surfing,

Nice video. What 2 apps were you using?

  10. Ansel Gough says:

The two apps I use are…

    1. todo (by UYH) – this is the handwriting app
    2. SimpleMindx – this is the mind mapping app (I use this app almost every day. I “mind map a lot of ideas)

    Hi Ansel,

Hope you had a good time?with your family on the beach. What digital camera are you using? It was so crystal clear? I have a cannon camera and a flip and all the vids are blurry.

thanks in advance for letting me know.

    Lydia

  12. Ansel Gough says:

    Hi Lydia,

I use a Cannon camera digital camera with a flash drive. My video editor (Orvon) does color correction and sharpens the image – which is why it looks a lot better.

    Talk soon,

    Hi Michelle,

I do have a login section however, it automatically logs on as soon as I turn the device on. Basically it works like a cell/mobile phone. It has a sim card in it. Anyone close by can pick up it’s signal using a wi-fi device (for example an iPod Touch or laptop), however they can’t access it without the password.

    Take care,
    Ansel
