Turn your WordPress blog into a membership site

Posted on 28 August 2009 by Ansel Gough

In this video I’m going to explain how to do 2 things. One, create a membership site from scratch using WordPress. Two, if you already have a WordPress blog, how to add or convert it into a paid membership site.

One of the biggest concerns often raised by blog owners, when it comes to turning a blog into a membership site is this – “don’t visitors expect a blog to provide FREE content?” I’m not only going to show you how to get around this problem  ( and still provide free content), but also why visitors to your blog WANT to pay for premium content.

2 Unique Membership Site Methods

This video covers 2 unique strategies that can be used to create your membership site. The first strategy is for people who are about to create their very first member site or blog and the second is for people who already have an established blog (established means you have recurring visitors to your site).

Strategy #1: The “Truncated Content Method”

Strategy #2: The “Branch Off Method”

I’ve used both strategies to generate high income – so feel free to select which method best suits you.

Enjoy the video,

Ansel Gough

PS: By the way, be sure to check out the end of the video where I’m trapped in a giant bird cage :)

    Thanks for the great tips.

I already have a blog, with visitors, should I test the branch off method before converting it over completely to a membership site?

Thanks for your post. Yes, I would recommend testing it before you try and switch it over. You many not even have to switch it over – the “Branch off Method” may be all you need.

Hello Ansel, this is a very interesting video of yours. I orginally setup my blog at Premier Learning Team to have a series of videos on it, training people how to do various online tasks. I ten went down the road of promoting other people’s products instead. I still would like to setup a membership site and have some free and some paid for content. Could you have a look at premierlearningteam.com and advise if your membership software could be added to that blog, or would I be better setting up a completely new blog? I look forward to your reply Ansel, Warmest regards, Gordon Also is it correct that it is best for one to gho for the annual subscription with you as they get the software free, how much would it cost me for the software if I was going for the monthly option, and do i have use of the software if I chose to leave your site after one year please?

    Hi Gordon,

Your site looks good. Great looking template. Because you’re WordPress blog is already set up in a membership site format, I would simply add our software to it. This will instantly convert it into a membership site.

If you purchase our monthly membership (which doesn’t come with the software) it will then cost your $249 to by the software + WordPress plugin separately.

You can sign up for they years subscription for only $187 and it comes with the software and plugin.

You don’t have to continue to use our software, and if you cancel the software is still yours to keep and use, even if you are no longer a member (we only expire software license keys on refunds, which rarely happens).

I am very interested Ansel, and I appreciate your prompt reply, I am just tying up some loose ends with other projects that I have on the go. Funnily enough I came across you a few years ago when I was thinking of starting a membership site, and kept your contact details, then life got in the way :-) I went down a different path, but I have decided to do something about creating something of my own now, rather than go down the affiliate or the mlm route, thanks again Ansel, and I will definitely be in touch shortly, Warmest regards, Gordon

    Hi Ansel,

    Thanks for this info.

I am setting up a membership site now…actually researching the software needed to do so.
I intend automating Twitter this month & then have my M’ship site underway in April as the next project with a finish date upon it.

Thanks again & I also signed up for your news letters.

    Kindest,
    Poppie

    Hi Ansel,

I’ve been thinking for the longest time in getting involved/started in this arena.

I am not that computer savy but I do come up with ideas like this one however my problem is that I sit too long on the sidelines and watch the world go bye.

So, where do I start my friend?

  8. Ansel Gough Says:

    Hi Dominic,

Thanks for your post. I also noticed you signed up to http://www.MembershipSiteAdvisor.com, so welcome to the clube.

The best place to get started is to click on the top banner in the members area which says “New Members Start Here”. This will give you the initial steps you need to follow to get started.

Keep me updated. I’m looking forward to seeing your first membership site.

    Ansel
